Saltaire was designed for Sir Titus Salt by the Bradford architects Lockwood and Mawson between 1851 & 1853 as part of a major social statement for a "New Industrial Age". Comprising of a massive textile mill and village built for the workforce of 900 houses, churches, schools, institute and other public amenities. The mill was in full production for a 100 years until the textile industry fell into decline.
