£12m Leeds City Council and Millenium Comission funded project to mark the year 2k. Replaced the old Mandela Gardens and a car park with one of Europe's most innovative, and impressive civic spaces, providing the first new public square in 60 years. Various incarnations include an ice rink, concert venue and huge TV screen for viewing such as the Euro 2004 football.
