The lively university city of Norwich is also the county town of Norfolk. It has a fine cathedral and both the best preserved Norman keep and medieval city layout in Britain. Wynmondham has an impressive abbey and one of the oldest inns in the country, dating from the 1300’s. Bungay was important strategically and the visitor’s centre by the castle ruins narrates its history. There are good examples of local plasterwork – pargeting – to be found in East Dereham.
