Henry VIII’s stunning riverside palace, Hampton Court is arguably the most impressive of the historic royal residences. The grounds are as spectacular as the state apartments, with the Maze being a particular favourite with visitors. The Palace itself is a mix of architectural styles: dating from Tudor times, the building was extensively remodelled by Christopher Wren. You could easily spend a day at Hampton Court, but if you do have time left, go to the town centre, which boasts an impressive collection of shops, bars and restaurants.
