The three pillars of Dundee industry are jam, jute and journalism. The jam and the jute date from the 18th century, though the journalism did not arrive until a couple of hundred years later, when the publishing house, which claimed the Beano and the Dandy among its titles, arrived in town. Dundee’s other claims to fame are the Tay Road Bridge, the Dundee Contemporary Arts Building and Captain Scott’s RRS Discovery.
