Romney Marshes & Folkestone Travel Guide

The Romney Marshes were once the stamping ground of smugglers, who took advantage of the impenetrable mists and intricate network of dykes that intersect the low lying plain. New Romney and Hythe were two of the five original Cinque Ports that supplied the crown with vessels and men in medieval times, and a pleasant way to travel between the two is on the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway. A few miles north of Hythe is Folkestone, one of the country’s busiest continental ferry terminals.
