Winchester & Basingstoke Travel Guide

Winchester, once the capital, is an historic city famous for its beautiful cathedral. Westwards there is good fishing along the River Test, which leads to Salisbury, while to the East lies Jane Austen’s home and the wonderful Hampshire countryside around Petersfield. Just in West Sussex, Midhurst, an old town with a calming pond, is a good point from which to climb nearby Blackdown. The other major city in the region, Basingstoke has some Iron Age ruins wrapped in myth and a good stretch of canal to walk along.
