Cardigan sits at one end of the glorious Pembrokeshire Coastal Path. Aberystwyth with its university is the liveliest town in the region, though Lampeter has a bit of a New Age following. There is good countryside to explore inland around the pretty fishing town of Aberaeron. Further north, the spectacular scenery of the Cader Idris mountains is home to the charming towns of Dolgellau, Machynlleth, the former capital, and laid back Llandidloes. The country can also be enjoyed by steam train from Llanfair.
