Salisbury Plain is most famous for ancient mystical Stonehenge still in use by druids today and Avebury Stone Circle near Marlborough. Salisbury itself is still a lively market town with a charming centre, well known for its glorious cathedral. The countryside is gentle but beautiful undulating England stretching to the Cotswolds in the north; Shaftesbury is a pretty place to stop and there are stately homes at Longleat, Stourhead and Wilton.
