The Stour Valley marks the boundary between Essex and Suffolk; it offers unusually hilly terrain for being in East Anglia. It is an extremely attractive part of the world and maybe this is what inspired two of England’s greatest painters, Thomas Gainsborough and John Constable, who were both born in the area.
Take a picturesque walk through the countryside made famous by John Constable, where you will discover Flatford Mill (a John Constable shrine) where you can view the artists beautiful paintings.
Mistley Place Park is a great place to visit whilst in the area, it is an animal sanctuary that receives no funding from outside organisations and totally relies on the income that the tearooms and visitors bring to the park, along with donations from the public.
