'Essex’s sunshine coast’ is packed with various resorts, each with its own character and flavour. Clacton is the brashest of them all, with amusements, arcades and pier attractions, while Frinton to the north is much more refined, and the seafront bursts of colour are from immaculate gardens, rather than neon strips. Walton-on-the-Naze is known for its gourmet seafood, with oysters and lobsters being the local specialities. However, the real joy of the Tendring Peninsula is the ancient port of Harwich, where the Old Town is a designated conservation area.
