Up the coast from Frinton-on-Sea is Walton-on-the-Naze; the Naze juts into the North Sea just south of Harwich and there is a great tower to warn seafarers of the offshore rocks.
Walton, like Clacton, has two Martello Towers that were built when Napoleon was threatening to attack England in the early 19th century.
There are many salt marshes and islands, which attract loads of birds and bird fanciers. There is also excellent sea fishing at Walton. Gourmets will be pleased to know that there is an abundance of fresh oyster and lobster available in the town.
