Several rail operators run trains through the Colchester and Suffolk coast area, key operators being Anglia Railways, First Great Eastern and WAGN.

Anglia Railways offer a direct route from London to places within the Suffolk coast area, passing through the town of Bury St. Edmunds. This operator also offers frequent services from London to Norwich, Ipswich and Colchester.

First Great Eastern railways also provides services between London, Essex and parts of Suffolk, including Colchester, Clacton and Manningtree. This operator also provides services to stations within the London Underground network, including Upminster, giving easy access to and from the centre of London

West Anglia Great Northern (WAGN) runs regular commuter services out of London Liverpool Street and Kings Cross through many of the London suburbs through to King's Lynn and Doncaster.

2009 marks the 250th anniversary of Scottish poet Robert Burns' birth. Burns was a poet and a lyricist and is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland.

The Burns Supper was started a few years after his death by a group of his friends; they held the supper to honour and remember Burns. The tradition caught on and the ritual of Burns Supper is now held all around the world.

His life and work will be celebrated throughout the year at many Burns-related events.
