Downham Market is situated where the Brecklands meet the Fens, and as the name suggests, it is a market town, which has been chartered since the 11th century. The town comes alive on Fridays and Saturdays, when the markets are in full swing, and after trawling the stalls for a bargain, why not pop into the historic 'White Swan Inn', where Charles I hid after the Battle of Naseby.
