Bury St. Edmund's is an extremely attractive ancient town in the heart of East Anglia. In medieval times the abbey became a renowned centre of learning and produced illuminated manuscripts, which are now on display in museums around the world.

A few parts of the original Bury St. Edmunds Abbey remain; St. James’ Tower dates from the 12th century and the 14th century gatehouse links the Abbey Gardens to Angel Hill. The Abbey Gardens, which surround the ruins, were created by the Marquis of Bristol. The council bought the Gardens from the Bristol family in the 50's and it is now a beautiful spot with attractive, award-winning floral displays, which are well worth a visit.

The Bury St. Edmunds Art Gallery is a great place to see new artists with great new work and fresh ideas. You can also check out a number of designers from Britain and abroad, take a visit and extend your art collection and take time to join in a wide range of workshops and social events.
