Brandon used to be a busy inland port for barges, which were on their way to Kings Lynn. It was also a major communications area where the West, East, and South of England met.

Brandon has a wealthy history that was due to its importance as the head British centre of the fur trade, the rabbits were a great source of food and fur. Brandon hasn't always been so green with forest, the open Heathland once surrounded Brandon, and this was a perfect environment to farm the Rabbits.

Brandon is England’s centre for the world’s oldest profession -flint knapping. Before the rabbit fur trade industry came about the town mined flint. Brandon is built upon the flint and for thousands of years arrowheads and tools have been fashioned from the contiguous stone. The flint was mined at Grimes Grave where you can still visit today. Whilst the Napoleonic wars were happening about 1million flints a month were produced in Brandon, they were in very high demand.
