Cromer is probably best known for two things; crabs & lifeboats. The town is on a cliff above wide, beautiful sandy beaches that look like a calm sort of resort, but the offshore sandbank known as ‘Devil’s Throat’ makes conditions hazardous and has kept the local lifeguard station busy since 1804.

Medieval houses, crammed in around the 14th century Church of St. Peter & St. Paul in the Old Town hint at the Cromers early prosperity, which was earned through the port and crab trade. For a bracing stroll and great views try the cliff path to the lighthouse.

A few miles up the coast is Sheringham, a town separated into two parts. Upper Sheringham sits on a hill overlooking the coast and is the ancient settlement that was recorded in the Doomsday Book, while Lower Sheringham is a fishing village and holiday resort.
