Transport Travel Guide 

The Norwich & Surrounds region is easily reached from the UK and many overseas destinations.

East Anglia’s international airports at Stansted and Norwich offer regular flights from many UK and European destinations. To fly to the region from outside Europe, connections can be made from one of the many UK and European gateway airports, such as Amsterdam or Manchester. Alternatively the major airports at Gatwick and Heathrow both lie approximately 150 miles to the south of Norwich.

The East Anglian port of Harwich is approximately 70 miles south of Norwich, offering regular ferries from Denmark, Germany and Sweden. A twice daily service also operates into the Dutch port at the Hook of Holland.

Norwich is at the centre of East Anglias rail network with good connections to London and most UK towns and cities. Trains run north to the coastal resorts of Cromer and Sheringham, south to Ipswich and London, east to Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft and west to Cambridge and Peterborough. Local Buses and express coaches provide excellent coverage throughout East Anglia.

For travel by road, the M11 and A14 offer routes to the Norwich & Surrounds region from London and the south-east. The A11/ M11 provides an effective route through Cambridge, while the A140 offers road links via Ipswich. The major route through Norfolk, the A47, heads west from Great Yarmouth on the coast, past Norwich, Kings Lynn and Peterborough before joining both the A1 and M1 providing good access both north and south.
