By the time of the Norman conquest the city of Norwich was among the country’s five most important centres. The medieval street plan is still very much in evidence, and historic buildings are everywhere – though the highlights are the cathedral, the castle, and the Strangers’ Hall. Norwich has spawned a couple of British culinary institutions: Coleman’s mustard is a local product, and our first ever TV chef, Delia Smith, comes from the city, and is an extremely vocal supporter of the local football team.
