The Sainsbury Collection is personal and hand picked, many of which were purchased after an instinctive response felt by the Sainsbury’s themselves. Modern European art is interspersed with fine and applied arts from Africa, the Pacific, the Americas, Asia and Egypt, mediaeval Europe and the ancient Mediterranean. From the likes of Picasso, Degas and Modigiliani, the figure is the re-occurring theme.
