London Buses 

London's Big Red Double Decker Buses conjure up the capital and everything British. The old Routemaster buses are 50 years old in 2004 & 90% of London buses now are modern & accessible to wheelchair users. The bus system is managed by Transport for London with bus services provided by independent bus operating companies. Many tickets & discount passes are available to buy in advance, some online, including the Visitor Travelcard.

• Destination & route numbers are displayed front & back of the buses
• Bus stops - shown by a round sign showing route numbers, white background means the bus stops there, red background means a request stop - put out your hand at the stop or onboard ring the bell to get on or off
• Two flat fare zones apply across the network: Central London & outer London
• Either show a Travelcard or pay the bus driver - exact change preferred
• A fine is payable if you do not have the right ticket
• Bendy Buses - do not take cash. Buy books of tickets in advance at main train stations or from street machines, Travelcard or bus passes are also accepted
• New buses have CCTV
• Police officers & Revenue inspectors - previously called ticket inspectors - patrol often
• Night Buses only stop on request
