Whilst I found interesting many of the original exhibits and manuscripts on display at this museum, I came away disappointed at the lack of cohesion and explanation. When I bought my ticket I was offered neither a guidebook nor an audio guide to accompany the tour. When I returned to the ticket desk to purchase a guide I was then told that these were out of stock. The rooms are numbered, but there is insufficient information at the point of display. In the basement area I happened to find a DVD being shown about the life of Dickens which is worth watching by way of introduction, but why could not visitors be directed here at the start of their visit? I came away with the impression that the staff could and should do more to improve the visitor experience at what is an important part of London's history.

I have was very disappointed in this museum, I had been looking forward to finding out more about Charles Dickens, but this museum revealed nothing. The basement had an unrelated 'authentic replication' laundry room and 'dicken's wine cellar' (read broken bottles in a wall), and the rest of the museum was badly laid out and very poorly executed. There was no clear explanation of what the point of the displays were. There was no common thread between the rooms and I walked away feeling that I had no new understanding of dickens or any feeling that I knew how he lived.
