The Isle of Dogs is a peninsula in the East End of London. It is surrounded on three sides by the river Thames. It has been curiously isolated geographically due to its situation on a bend in the river. Its council houses and the docks dominate the peninsula.

In the 60's this was still the world's busiest port, but by the beginning of the 80's the entire shipping industry had disappeared. The turnaround is quite staggering and the pioneers of the 80's who envisioned the brave new development can probably hardly believe it themselves.
