Highgate is perhaps the most villagey of the London villages and has an otherworldly rural idyll feel to it, despite being quite central, with multi million pound homes, smart boutiques and restaurants. Visit Karl Marx and other famous residents of Highgate’s famous cemetery. Hampstead Garden Suburb is an almost gated community, tightly controlled by its Trust. Although it now attracts the upper end of the social spectrum it was founded with the noblest of intentions.
