Highgate is a charming London village, probably the most village like of all. With the nearby expanse of the Heath, a genuine farm and windy, tree lined lanes it is easy to forget that the centre of London is only five or six miles away.
It is every bit as upmarket as nearby Hampstead and still has its fair share of famous residents. Highgate Village has plenty of smart shops, restaurants, bars and cafes and a real village feel. Stunning multi-million pound mansions, gorgeous streets and squares and picturesque pubs make it a wonderful place. In summer lie back with a bottle of bubbly and punnet of strawberries to enjoy the outdoor concerts and proms at Kenwood House on the Heath.
Highgate Cemetery’s most famous resident is Karl Marx, but there are supposedly 850 notable people, including Michael Faraday and George Eliot, buried here too.
