Edmonton is to the north of Tottenham; it suffers from swathes of grey concrete, bleak estates and little in the way of traditional architecture. It is slowly changing, with new developments coming on.
Head to Wood Green for shops, cinemas, eateries for the area although more are making an appearance in Tottenham itself now. You must check out the Millfield Arts Centre, where they show various pantomimes and musicals, a great day out for the family. They also have a youth theatre group where children can learn a wide range of performing skills including singing, drama and dancing.
