Clapham Common is prime South London turf, with a great, open, city space popular for dog walking, playing games, reading the paper and loafing, with good pubs, restaurants and cafes nearby. Battersea, another genteel borough south of the river, is famous for its Dogs' Home and landmark power station. The park has a beautiful Buddhist peace pagoda.
