The Pump House Gallery located in Battersea Park is a restored grade II listed building, originally built in 1861 to supply water to the lakes and cascades of the then new Battersea Park. After falling into a state of disrepair the building was lovingly restored by the English Heritage and Wandsworth Council and reopened in 1992 as a shop, park information centre and art gallery.
From 1992 until the end of 1998, the two upper floors were hired out by predominantly local artists and exhibits changed every two weeks. In 1999, the pump house transformed into a contemporary visual arts exhibition space aimed at a wider audience, to entertain and educate, with four floors of widely publicised international exhibitions.
Admission into the pump house gallery is free and they show a diverse range of contemporary artwork, exhibited in group and solo shows by artists from all over the world, as well as offering residencies to practicing artists. The current exhibition Pigisback byThomas Kilpper runs from 29 September - 29 October 2006.
The Pump House is available for private hire events and holds a licence to hold civil weddings. A successful range of events have been held in the gallery, encompassing everything from parties to weddings and receptions to corporate entertaining and product launches.
