A sexy grotto below the lovely l'Etranger, Opal is a hidden gem of a drinking, dancing and dining den. The ambience is enhanced with black walls and sinuous banquettes that curve round the cave-like bends. Pockets of privacy here and there float under pools of coloured light. The rest of the seating is a flock of little poufs straight out of Austin Powers. Opal has a tremendously varied drinks list, focusing on gigundo kegs of punch to share among four to eight mates as well as classic Martinis and such. The menu is French-inflected Asian finger food, which suits the international crowd just fine. Share a platter of fresh sashimi, or an Oriental platter. Once you're stoked, then dance the night away.

2009 marks the 250th anniversary of Scottish poet Robert Burns' birth. Burns was a poet and a lyricist and is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland.
The Burns Supper was started a few years after his death by a group of his friends; they held the supper to honour and remember Burns. The tradition caught on and the ritual of Burns Supper is now held all around the world.
His life and work will be celebrated throughout the year at many Burns-related events.
