The oldest film studio in the world, Ealing Studios stages and offices are steeped in history having survived the onset of the talkies, two world wars and the more recent technological advances in film and TV.

Will Barker, a pioneer of British cinema, originally acquired the site in 1902. Since then the studios have seen films such as the Ladykillers, The Lavender Hill Mob and Passport to Pimlico up till the late 1950’s. The BBC then bought the Studios in 1959 and they spent the next 20 years creating television productions from Ealing Studios such as Colditz, The Singing Detective and Fortunes of War.

Uri Fruchtmann, Barnaby Thompson, Harry Handelsman and John Kao acquired the Studios in mid-2000. Together these partners aimed to rebuild the studios with a vision that brings film, technology and property expertise together.

Ealing Studios has recently accommodated high profile films including An Ideal Husband, Notting Hill, Star Wars Episode 2, Lucky Break and The Importance of Being Earnest. Recent television productions include The Royle Family, Bedtime, Randall and Hopkirk Deceased and Emma Brody.

Celebrate - The National Poet of Scotland

Robert Burns

2009 marks the 250th anniversary of Scottish poet Robert Burns' birth. Burns was a poet and a lyricist and is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland.

The Burns Supper was started a few years after his death by a group of his friends; they held the supper to honour and remember Burns. The tradition caught on and the ritual of Burns Supper is now held all around the world.

His life and work will be celebrated throughout the year at many Burns-related events.
