Earls Court lies to the north of Fulham, and though architecturally it is very similar to neighbouring Kensington, it has a rather different character. For many years it was known as Roo Valley because of the number of Australians who made their temporary home here. It was also the centre of the capital’s gay life, until Old Compton Street stole that mantle.
However, most people find themselves in this neck of the woods because they are here to see an exhibition at either Earl’s Court Exhibition Centre, or the Olympia, although the new Excel centre at Canary Wharf is now London’s leading conference and exhibition venue.
This is still a popular area for visitors to London and there are plenty of accommodation options for all budgets. It is well placed for nipping in and out of the West End and the rest of London is easily accessible by tube or bus.

2009 marks the 250th anniversary of Scottish poet Robert Burns' birth. Burns was a poet and a lyricist and is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland.
The Burns Supper was started a few years after his death by a group of his friends; they held the supper to honour and remember Burns. The tradition caught on and the ritual of Burns Supper is now held all around the world.
His life and work will be celebrated throughout the year at many Burns-related events.
