This part of Buckinghamshire is full of pretty villages and busy towns, the chief one being Aylesbury. Sheltered by the Chiltern Hills, this ancient town has a market which dates back to the 13th century. A conservation area has been created around the market square, and here you will find lots of quiet lanes and old Georgian buildings. Take a visit to the County Museum to learn about the local history and view the wonderful display dedicated to the local author, Roald Dahl, who lived and worked in the area.
Check out the Waddeson Manor (1874), which is now owned by the National Trust, it was built in the style of a huge French chateau, and took 15 years to complete, it now displays stunning works of art including a large collection of Gainsborough paintings and Sevres porcelain.
The Churchill Arms, is a place which you must visit especially if you have a love for sausages, and real ale they have a cosy open log fire and a menu of over fifty sausages from all around the world, it's a lovely place to spend a lazy afternoon or two. A more luxurious day out can be found in Wigginton, home of the very up market Champneys health spa and resort. Here mere mortals can rub shoulders with the rich and famous in opulent surroundings.
