Henley-on-Thames is world famous for its Royal Regatta, this is a very affluent town, which lies on the banks of the River Thames. The Regatta was founded in 1839 and takes place on the last weekend of June, it is the world's most prestigious amateur rowing event.
Henley itself has a number of lovely restaurants and pubs, and near the bridge you can catch a variety of boat trips along the Thames river.
Just outside the town you will find the 'River and Rowing Museum', where you can trace the history of rowing from an Ancient Greek Trireme to a present day Olympic rowing boat.
