The suburbs of Essex and Hertfordshire are well served by the UK rail network and direct train travel is available to London and most major UK destinations.

First Great Eastern are the principle rail service operators within the region, with trains between London and Ipswich, Clacton and Southend. Trains call at many stations en-route, including stops at Billericay, Romford and Chelmsford.

C2C provide local trains between London's Fenchurch and Liverpool St stations, throughout the suburbs of north-east London and south Essex, and onto the seaside resort of Southend.
