Luton is the largest town in Bedford, it is well known for its international airport and huge Vauxhall car works, but its prosperity dates back to the 16th and 17th century, when it became the centre of lace and hat making.

Just to the south of the town, you will find the spectacular Luton Hoo, set amongst 1,500-acres of landscaped parkland, designed by Capability Brown, which includes lakes and rose gardens.

A huge hillside carving of a white lion, represents Whipsnade Wild Animal Park, part of London Zoo, it was founded to establish breeding programs for endangered species. Situated in 600-acres of parkland, and home to over 2,500 animals, it is one of Europe’s largest animal conservation centres.

Situated on the Grand Union Canal is the busy market town of Leighton Buzzard, the markets happen twice a week, and are well worth a visit.
