Stevenage is one of Britain’s new towns, built after the 2nd World War, but parts of the old town remain, and this is where the novelist E M Forster spent his adolescence.

Just to the South of the town is Knebworth House, famous for its summertime rock concerts, and owned by the Lytton family since the 15th century. Most of the house was rebuilt as a spectacular Gothic mansion in 1843, and influential guests over the years have included Elizabeth I, Winston Churchill and Charles Dickens. The formal gardens include a herb garden and a maze, while the 250-acres of parkland has a deer park, adventure playground and miniature railway.

If you are wanting to find out more about the history of the town check out the award winning Stevenage museum. They have special exhibitions which change throughout the year.
