Burford is known as the Gateway to the Cotswolds, there are many beautiful towns and villages in this region, but perhaps the loveliest is Burford. It was an important wool town, and still has a wonderful collection of timber framed houses from the 15th century made from a variety of Cotswold stone.

Here you can wander around the many antique shops, the Tolsey Museum and don't miss the Parish Church (13th century), one of the finest in Oxfordshire, with a history to match. There are many fine pubs, the Mermaid and the Angel, with its fantastic food menu, are particularly recommended.

Two miles south of Burford you will find the Cotswolds Wildlife Park, a listed Gothic manor house which is surrounded by a 160-acre landscaped park. The park features many endangered and exotic species such as White Rhinos, Red Pandas and Asiatic Leopards, as well as an adventure playground and a narrow gauge railway.
