The Slaughters are two pretty little villages in the Cotswolds that are linked by the tiny River Eye. They are both equally as attractive but Upper Slaughter is less touched by tourism.
Upper Slaughter has an open square, which is bordered by cottages that were re-modelled in 1906 in keeping with Cotswold style. There are lovely little bridges along the river and wild flowers that create a tranquil and peaceful atmosphere.
Lower Slaughter is downstream about a mile from Upper Slaughter, the river is the main feature of the village as it zigzags the houses and gently flows through the banks of gardens. You are able to walk this picturesque trail from Upper Slaughter to Lower Slaughter.
