Within 30 miles of London's orbital M25, Oxford and its surrounding area is easy to drive to from all areas of the UK. Two motorways and good "A" roads make driving into and around Oxfordshire quick and easy.

  • The M4 from Bristol, travels along Oxforshire's southern borders, joining the M25 near Slough
  • The M40 from Birmingham, passes Oxford, joining the M25 just past High Wycombe
  • The A34 travels south from Oxford to Newbury and onto Southampton on the south coast
  • The A40 heads west from Oxford to Cheltenham and Gloucester

Celebrate - The National Poet of Scotland

Robert Burns

2009 marks the 250th anniversary of Scottish poet Robert Burns' birth. Burns was a poet and a lyricist and is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland.

The Burns Supper was started a few years after his death by a group of his friends; they held the supper to honour and remember Burns. The tradition caught on and the ritual of Burns Supper is now held all around the world.

His life and work will be celebrated throughout the year at many Burns-related events.
