Dorking is a charming town set in the rolling countryside of the Surrey Hills. The historic buildings are totally unspoilt, and a walk around the town centre is like taking a step back in time, and the antiques shops and ancient inns of West Street are well worth a look. The surrounding countryside is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and a good way to discover it is by following the North Downs Way, which ends at the Kent coast. Gatton Park near Reigate, features some lovely specialist gardens, set in Capability Brown landscaping, and is a popular local attraction.
