Leatherhead is a small town in Surrey, England, on the River Mole. Being located in the centre of the county and at a junction of north-south and east-west communications, the town has been a focus for transport throughout its history.
Even though it’s a small town it has a couple of ‘claim to fame’s’ like it was the home of Arthur Dent in the fantastic book/film ‘Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy’. It was mentioned in the original H. G. Wells book The War of the Worlds, on Day Ten, Leatherhead is destroyed by a Martian attack, killing everyone. And it is also home of the Surrey Sound Recording Studios where many bands recorded here, including Rick Astley, The Police, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Alternative TV and Bros.
The town has a small pedestrianised centre which has a supermarket and many specialist shops. There are a number of popular restaurants on the main street which draw in a lovely atmosphere on summer evenings.
