Glossop lies on the western fringes of the Peak District, at the foot of Snake Pass before it climbs up and over the Pennines linking Sheffield and Manchester.
The town has two distinct facades, Old Glossop is a predominantly 17th century village, settled around the Parish Church, while the rest of the town is a product of the industrialisation that arrived in the 19th century with the mills and the cotton boom.
Glossop town centre caters for all your shopping needs from supermarkets to small boutique shops. There is also an indoor market, Thursday to Saturday and an outdoor market on Friday and Saturday. Visit the Glossop Heritage Centre in Henry Street to learn about all aspects of the town’s heritage from Roman times to the present day.
Near by Buxton has a beautiful Opera House, where the Buxton Opera Festival kicks off in early July, it is followed by the Gilbert and Sullivan show, a must see if you're in the area.
