Grantham came to prominence due to its position on popular routes between Lincoln and London. There are an abundance of coaching inns, the most famous being the Angel & Royal in the High Street, where King John is said to have held court in 1213 and the George, which appears in Charles Dicken’s Nicholas Nickelby.
The town’s pride and joy is the 14th century Church of St. Wulfram, which features an impressive 282 ft spire, as well as a chained library. The church is close to the 15th century school, where Isaac Newton was once a pupil.
Grantham House is a National Trust Owned building, which was first built in the 14th century, substantially extended 200 years later, and stands in 25-acres of parkland.

2009 marks the 250th anniversary of Scottish poet Robert Burns' birth. Burns was a poet and a lyricist and is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland.
The Burns Supper was started a few years after his death by a group of his friends; they held the supper to honour and remember Burns. The tradition caught on and the ritual of Burns Supper is now held all around the world.
His life and work will be celebrated throughout the year at many Burns-related events.
