Peterborough was first settled around 3,700B.C. making it an extremely ancient place. Since then it has been an important Roman and Saxon centre, but it was the Norman’s who really made their mark on the city, with their gorgeous cathedral. Other places of interest include the Butter Cross and Longthorpe Tower, while the local museum & art gallery has exhibits from the Jurassic era, right up to the modern day.
