Shrewsbury and its surrounds have excellent local and long distance trains.

Wales and Borders are the main train operating company. Central also cover some Midlands routes, the Birmingham to Worcester and Hereford trains pass through Shropshire.

Shrewsbury to Chester Line

  • Travels via Ruabon Station for Llangollen
  • Chirk Station for the nearby aqueduct and castle
  • Gobowen Station for Oswestry

Marches Line

  • Crosses the Shropshire and Herefordshire Marches
  • Stops at Church Stretton, Craven Arms, Leominster and Ludlow

Train journey Times to Shropshire

All require at least one change at Birmingham New Street, more depending on time of travel. Shrewsbury is the main hub station for local trains to link to the national rail network.

  • Shrewsbury - 3 hours from London Kings Cross
  • Oswestry - 3 hours 30 mins from Gobowen Station
  • Telford - 3 hrs 14 mins from London Kings Cross
  • Whitchurch Salop - 4 hrs 13 mins from London Kings Cross
