Shrewsbury the county town for the area is 164 miles (264km) north-west of London, midway between Birmingham and the Welsh border.

The nearest airports are Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester, all approximately an hour away by car. The closest, Birmingham International Airport, has direct scheduled services from over 50 destinations worldwide including the USA.

Shrewsbury is inland yet it has extensive canals. The Shropshire Union Canal passes through Barbridge Junction to Droveway Bridge, Pendeford and Middlewich Arm for canal cruises round the area. The Montgomery and Llangollen canals also pass through close to Oswestry.

To arrive by sea, the passenger ferry ports at Mostyn, Holyhead and Merseyside are within one and a half hour's drive with excellent road and rail connections.

The main towns of Telford, Oswestry and Shrewsbury are easy to drive to by car. Shrewsbury connects to the M6 and the UK motorway network via the M54, reached via the A49.
