The annual Cheese-Rolling competition is held at Cooper's Hill in Gloucester. Volunteers spend two week-ends clearing nettles and ‘scrub’ from the face of the hill where the world famous Cheese Rolling will be taking place.
Food rationing was introduced in 1941 so a wooden ‘cheese’ was used until 1954. It was covered in paper and was decorated with the familiar red and blue ribbons.
