I was booked in as I was attending a conference being held there. I had booked the night before the conference started to avoid a long journey before the conference.
When I arrived reception said they had no record of my booking. However they found me a room. I wanted a place to lay my head and get some sleep. They put me initially in an enormous room with a four poster bed. It looked like something out of "Hello" magazine - ugghhh! I immediately returned to reception to ask for the price of that room (£225 per night!) and asked instead for a normal one. They moved me to a standard room.
Cooked breakfast is to be avoided. Greasy and claggy kept-warm food was on offer. I asked instead for scrambled agg on toast and a pot of tea. The tea arrived in a pot the size of a bucket (for one person!) and there was no milk at all. The scrambled egg looked like it had been tipped on to my plate out of a flower pot and was utterly tasteless.
I went to reception to check the price for the previous night's standard room. Guess what - it was £225.
I had had enough. I vacated my room and agreed to pay £150. I moved into the local Travelodge. More comfortable and £175 per night cheaper! Never again.
