Ikon's reputation for innovation, internationalism and excellence has developed over 40 years. Now housed in the neo-gothic Oozells Street School, Ikon has an artistic programme consisting of three interdependent strands.

The Gallery features temporary exhibitions over two floors totalling 450 square metres. A variety of media are represented, including sound, film, mixed media, photography, painting, sculpture and installation.

  • Education is at the heart of Ikon's activities, stimulating public interest in and understanding of contemporary visual art. Through a variety of talks, tours, workshops and seminars, the Education & Interpretation programme recognises that artistic expression can empower people, heightening individual and community experience.

Restaurant/Bar

Café Ikon is the most established and authentic tapas bar with excellent food and wine housed at Ikon Gallery.Café Ikon serves as an oasis of calm in the city centre, a relaxed meeting ground for lunch as well as a top-class pre-theatre meal venue. The Spanish cuisine is served with flourish and the restaurant has gained an enviable reputation for its delicious specialty paella which is cooked to order. Families are welcome, credit and debit cards accepted.

Ikon Shop is Birmingham's best-loved specialist art bookshop, stocking a wide range of books and magazines on contemporary arts and culture. Ikon Shop is also the only place to find the complete back catalogue of Ikon publications and art multiples.
