Staithes is a lovely little resort on the North Yorkshire Heritage Coast, and it is so picturesque that it has attracted scores of artists through the ages. Nearby is the dramatic sight of Boulby Cliff, which is the tallest in England. Saltburn is a quiet resort that sprang up in Victorian times, and is pleasantly free of brash seaside attractions. But if you do fancy something a bit livelier, head to Redcar, where you will find plenty of amusements, as well as a racecourse.
